The process development division of AltraFlora sits between two worlds: the academic plant-chemistry tradition that informs what is worth extracting, and the high-pressure engineering discipline that determines whether it can be extracted at scale. We work the seam between them, and we treat that seam as our home.
Our story.
AltraFlora was founded as a producer of supercritical CO₂ plant extracts — rosemary, oregano, sage, black cumin, amaranth — for the cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries. The producer needed a laboratory to control its own product quality, and over the course of a few years the laboratory grew into something larger than the production it was meant to support.
By 2024 it had become its own thing: a process development consultancy with a fully equipped chromatography bench, a portfolio of optimized extractions, and a working relationship with the SuperEx engineering team that meant any process we designed could be built into hardware and shipped. We split it off as a separate division under the AltraFlora roof.
The team.
A small group, by design. The work we do — experimental design, chromatographic analysis, process optimization, and tech transfer — is best done by chemists who own the entire chain rather than by specialists handing samples between departments.
Dr Denizcan Köseoğlu
Synthetic and analytical chemist by training, with a PhD in chemistry. Runs the chromatography bench, designs experimental campaigns, and writes most of the application notes you see on this site. Publishes regularly in supercritical-fluid and natural-product journals.
Prof Abdullah Akdoğan
Professor of Food Engineering at Pamukkale University and our long-standing academic partner. Brings two decades of supercritical-fluid extraction expertise to the harder process problems we encounter, and supervises the graduate-student projects we host.
PARD Engineering team
A group of mechanical and mechatronic engineers in Konya who build the SuperEx extraction systems we use and recommend. When a project ends with an equipment quote, this is who you'll be working with on the build, the installation, and the long-term service relationship.
The laboratory.
Built around a Shimadzu chromatography stack acquired in 2024, the bench is dedicated to natural-product analysis and process control. A short list of what's on it:
- Shimadzu GCMS-QP2020 NX with AOC-20i autosampler — volatile compound identification by EI mass spectrometry, NIST library matching, quantitation against authentic standards.
- Shimadzu Nexis GC-2030 with FID detection, configured in parallel with the MS for dual-detector single-injection analysis.
- Shimadzu HPLC with photodiode-array detection covering 190–700 nm, for non-volatile bioactives.
- Multimode plate reader for high-throughput UV-Vis assays — total phenolics, total flavonoids, DPPH, ABTS, FRAP.
- SuperEx SC-1000 lab-scale SFE — 1 L working volume, for design-of-experiment runs on plant material at lab scale.
- SuperEx P-60 pilot SFE — 2 × 30 L working volume, for scale-up confirmation runs and small commercial production.
- DeepDryer freeze dryer — for preparing high-moisture raw material before extraction, and for converting extract solutions into dry, shelf-stable powders.

We don't operate alone. Three relationships shape what we can do for clients:
SuperEx · the equipment side
SuperEx is the SFE equipment brand we use and recommend. The same parent group (PARD Engineering) manufactures both our laboratory extractors and the industrial systems we specify for clients at the end of a project. The relationship is close enough that we can ask for a hardware modification on a Monday and run a pilot batch on Friday.
AltraFlora · the production side
AltraFlora is our parent brand — the producer of finished plant extracts for industry. We share the laboratory, the team, and the building. When a client's question is "can we just buy the extract?" rather than "can we build the line?", they are who we point you toward.
Universities · the academic seam
Active collaborations with Pamukkale University, Istanbul University, Bursa Uludağ University, and other institutions both in Türkiye and abroad. These collaborations have produced peer-reviewed publications on subcritical-water hydrolysis, supercritical CO₂ impregnation of chromatographic stationary phases, aerogel drying, and high-pressure extraction kinetics.
Publications & research.
We publish regularly on the work that passes through the lab. Recent contributions include process-optimization studies on cannabis terpene fractionation, subcritical-water extraction of polar polyphenols, and the use of supercritical CO₂ for solvent-free synthesis of C18 reversed-phase HPLC columns. We treat every commercial project as if it were going to be published. The discipline shows up in the result.
