Compositional analysis — send a sample, receive a report.

The AltraProcess chromatography laboratory exists primarily to support our own process work, but it operates as a standalone analytical service for outside clients as well. Plant extracts, essential oils, finished cosmetic or food products, supplements, authentication of raw materials — we identify what is present, in what quantity, with full chromatographic evidence and a professional report.

What we measure, and how.

The instruments and methods listed below cover the vast majority of routine compositional questions in plant chemistry and natural-product formulation. Methods marked as accredited follow validated SOPs against certified standards; all others are research-grade analyses delivered with full method documentation.

GC-MS / GC-FID

Volatile compound profiling

Identification of volatile compounds by mass spectrometry against the NIST library, with parallel quantitation by FID against certified reference standards. The dual-detector configuration produces an identification and a quantitative result in a single injection.
Essential oils · FAME profiles · Volatile flavour · Solvent residues · Authenticity assessment
HPLC-PDA

Non-volatile bioactive quantitation

Liquid chromatography with photodiode-array detection across 190–700 nm. Polyphenols, flavonoids, cannabinoids, alkaloids, vitamins, and pigments — quantitated against external standard curves with full validation parameters.
Caffeine · Catechins · Cannabinoids · Capsaicinoids · Anthocyanins · Tocopherols
UV-Vis spectroscopy

Bulk-property assays

96-well plate format for high-throughput screening of total phenolic content (Folin-Ciocalteu), total flavonoids (AlCl₃), antioxidant activity (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP), and total carotenoids by absorbance.
TPC · TFC · DPPH · ABTS · FRAP · Carotenoid index
Physico-chemical

Quality & stability indicators

Routine quality-control measurements: peroxide value, acid value, iodine value, saponification index, moisture (Karl Fischer), pH, refractive index, density, and viscosity. The standard battery for oils, extracts, and finished products.

Comparative & kinetic

Method development

For clients whose target compound is not on our routine menu, we develop and validate a custom HPLC or GC method against an authentic standard. Linearity, LOD/LOQ, precision, recovery, and accuracy are documented per ICH Q2(R1).
Method development · Standard validation · ICH Q2 documentation
Authentication

Essential-oil authenticity

GC-MS + GC-FID fingerprinting compared against ISO reference compositions or established literature ranges. Detection of common adulterants — synthetic terpenes, vegetable oil dilution, propylene glycol, dicaprylyl ether.

Sample submission, step by step.

Most external analytical work follows the same simple path. Bulk discounts apply for batches of more than ten samples; rush turnaround is available for most assays at a surcharge.

01. Submit your sample

Email us at info@altraflora.com with a short description: what the sample is, what you want to know about it, and (if applicable) what standards or methods you'd like us to follow. We reply within one working day with a sample submission form. Most assays require 0.5–5 g of sample.

02. Receive a quote

We confirm the analytical scope, turnaround time, and fixed price in writing. No work begins until you approve the quote. Routine assays are flat-rate; method development is billed by the day.

03. Analysis & reporting

Routine analyses turn around in 5–10 working days from sample arrival. The final report includes: the methods used, the instrumentation, the chromatographic and spectroscopic data, quantitative results with uncertainty, and an interpretation paragraph.

Sample report

For an example of the format and depth of our analytical reporting, see the published application notes in the Application Notes library — the chromatographic figures and tables in those notes are produced from the same template used for client reports.

04. Follow-up & archive

Reports are issued as both a signed PDF and an editable working document. Raw chromatographic data (Shimadzu LabSolutions format) is available on request. Sample residues are retained for 30 days post-report unless the client requests longer storage or return shipping.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send a sample for analysis?

Send a short description of the sample and what you need measured. We confirm the analytical scope, turnaround time and a fixed price in writing, and no work begins until you approve that quote.

What does an analysis cost and how long does it take?

Routine assays are flat-rate and method development is billed by the day. Bulk discounts apply for batches of more than ten samples, and rush turnaround is available for most assays at a surcharge. Scope, turnaround and price are all fixed in the written quote before work starts.

Which analytical techniques do you run in-house?

GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC-PDA, UV-Vis and physico-chemical assays, plus method development and validation with ICH Q2 documentation. The figures and tables in our published application notes come from the same reporting template used for client work.
