Colour strength was determined spectrophotometrically. Absorbance is read at 460 nm and converted to ASTA colour units against the weighed sample mass — ASTA = absorbance at 460 nm × 164 ÷ sample mass (g) — and reported as International Colour Units, where ICU = ASTA × 40.
